UAE- TRA participates in the Global Conference on Cyberspace 2015 in Netherlands


(MENAFN- Emirates News Agency (WAM)) The General Authority for Regulating the Telecommunications Sector, TRA, participated in the Global Conference on Cyberspace 2015, which was held in The Hague, Netherlands on 16th-17th April. During the conference, the UAE presented its major achievements and the most important initiatives in the field of ICT.

The conference tackled key issues related to the Internet, including freedom, privacy and capacity building, as well as discussing the Internet as a key driver for growth and economic development. In addition, the conference discussed cyber security, cybercrime and combating piracy and criminal activity online with wide interest and attention by the participating delegations.

"This international conference served as a vital platform for exchanging insights and ideas on many critical issues related to the TRA's scope of work. The United Arab Emirates has come a long way in the field of cyberspace and now occupies a leading position in the region and the world in this area. We look forward to a remarkable participation where we will highlight the UAE's outstanding achievements, success stories, experiences and the learned lessons," said Hamad Obaid Al Mansouri, TRA Director-General.

"We at the TRA, the organising authority of the UAE ICT sector, emphasise that our country is taking steady steps towards innovation and development in compliance with a national strategy aimed at reinforcing the UAE's leading status in various fields, including cyberspace. To achieve this, we count on UAE citizens who serve their country and its wise leadership with loyalty, determination and dedication," he added.

"We must provide the highest degree of security online for both businesses and customers. The conference witnessed great participation from various cyberspace stakeholders. The event's sessions and workshops discussed many important topics such as the Internet services provided to business owners, dealers, and government entities," said the Manager of Internet Services at the TRA, Abdulrahman Al Marzouqi.

The Global Conference on Cyberspace also discussed a range of issues with a focus on international peace and security in cyberspace, Internet crimes and its jurisdiction, as well as implications of new Internet technologies. The multi-stakeholder approach event focused on public-private cooperation in relation to internet security besides launching the Global Forum on Cyber Expertise. During the conference, the UAE presented the TRA's key initiatives in cyber security.

The TRA initiatives in this area included the UAE Computer Emergency Response Team's, aeCERT, providing best practices and policies that will help implement precautionary measures to reduce cyber vulnerabilities and electronic attacks. The aeCERT also run awareness programmes in the field of cyber security aimed at raising the level of awareness and education among Internet users and familiarising them with the risks and security threats that could endanger their cyberspace.
