Floating storage and regasification unit arrives in Aqaba on May 25: minister

(MENAFN- Jordan News Agency) The floating storage and regasification unit (FSRU), which was leased for the liquefied natural gas terminal in Aqaba Port, will arrive in Aqaba on May 25, Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Ibrahim Saif said.

The minister added in a press statement on Tuesday that the vessel, which is in the territorial waters of Singapore, is expected to leave for Qatar, where it will pick up a shipment of liquefied natural gas required for operational tests, noting that the shipment will arrive at the natural gas terminal in Aqaba on May 25.

He added that the FSRU is a major component of a project to import liquefied natural gas, which is currently being implemented by the Ministry, noting that it will provide new sources for natural gas to meet the needs of electricity-generating plants.

The Jordanian government, represented by the Ministry of Energy, signed in July 2013 an agreement with Golar LNG to lease an FSRU from the company.

The agreement represents a step forward in implementing Jordan's liquefied natural gas import strategy.
