Qatar- QMMF's West, Simon start strong at home

(MENAFN- The Peninsula) QMMF Racing Team's Anthony West and Julian Simon made a good start to the 2015 Moto2 season at the Losail International Circuit here on Thursday night.

Under floodlights of the fast and sweeping 5.38km circuit of Losail, the QMMF's home circuit, both riders broke into the top 10 in the first practice session.

Only small set-up problems and a few raindrops towards the end of the second session stopped West and Simon from going faster in the second session.

Eventually, they settled for 15th and 16th place in the combined standings of day one but were confident of improving on Friday.

"In the first practice session, I had quite a good feeling with the bike. We still had a little bit of problems with the suspension set-up, which we tried to fix it for the second session," West said.

Unfortunately, we didn't fix it very well and we lost some grip in the rear. The conditions in the second session were not so good either and almost everybody was a little bit slower. Apart from that, I am happy with what we achieved so far. We don't have to change too much for tomorrow, just fine-tune the bike a little bit, put a new tyre on and then we should be back in the top ten again," West added.

His team-mate Julian Simon said: "I am very happy with our start into the new season. My feeling with the bike was good, especially in the first session. In the second session I broke a gear and I lost about 15 minutes in the box. Then it started to drizzle in the last minutes of the session and I couldn't push for a better lap time any more."

"But all in all we had a good day, because I managed to take another step forward with the settings and with my feeling for the bike. Tomorrow, I will try a new fairing and I hope to improve," Simon added.
