Jordan- Conference on women in Sharia concludes meetings


(MENAFN- Jordan News Agency) Amman Feb.26 (Petra) - The closing session of Women in Sharia" conference which concluded meetings Wednesday evening discussed challenges faced by workers in the defense of women's rights through litigation phase as well as gender equity principles of Islamic law. In his speech at the closing ceremony Minister of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs Hayel Dawood stressed that defending of the oppressed and vulnerable groups including women is one of the authentic goals of Islam. The minister underscored that achieving justice for women requires empowering them to be able to defend their rights and receive compensation through effective implementation of the rule of Sharia . The conference on women in Sharia held by the West Asia and North Africa (WANA) Institute under the patronage of HRH Prince Hassan shed light on the potential of using Sharia which is often seen as discriminatory against women in boosting their involvement. During the conference Muslim scholars legal experts and representatives of international development agencies called for developing a legal framework that puts gender equity principles of Sharia (Islamic law) into practice. //Petra//S Kh 26/2/2015 - 02:55:59 PM
