(MENAFN- The Peninsula) H E Dr Mohamed bin Saleh Al Sada, the Minister of Energy and Industry, met with Mark Simmonds, British Member of Parliament and Minister for Africa and International Energy, Foreign & Commonwealth Office, yesterday.
The meeting, which was held at QP headquarters, was attended by a number of senior officials from QP and Qatar Petroleum International (QPI).
Talks during the meeting covered a number of energy developments of interest to both countries including Qatar Petroleum's projects in the African continent, as well as other topics of mutual interest.
The British Embassy later said in a press note that Simmonds was in Doha to discuss the situations in Sudan and Somalia and international energy issues and look at opportunities for the Qatar and the UK to work more closely.
Simmonds met H E Ahmed bin Abdullah bin Zaid Al Mahmoud, the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs. Simmonds also met Mohammed bin Abdullah Al Rumeihi, the Foreign Minister's Assistant for Foreign Affairs.
The discussions focussed on Qatar-UK cooperation on Africa, particularly in Sudan and Somalia, as well as exploring opportunities for Qatar-UK partnerships on energy development and investment in Africa.
Simmonds said: "I am delighted to have visited Qatar again for a series of excellent meetings focused on very important issues. Security in Sudan and Somalia is vital, and it requires an international effort to help support them towards a peaceful and stable future. Qatar and the UK both have an important role to play in Africa and on international energy issues and I hope my visit will further strengthen our co-operation in these areas, and also our growing bilateral relationship."
British Ambassador Nicholas Hopton said: " The bilateral partnership is extremely strong across the board. We are working to support Qatar's realisation of its 2030 Vision and to deliver a successful World Cup in 2022. Cooperation between the Qatar and the UK on Africa and energy issues is strong and the visit is an opportunity to maintain those strong links and take our cooperation a step further."
