Af-Pak trade via Ghulam Khan route set to resume

(MENAFN- Pajhwok Afghan News) PESHAWAR (Pajhwok): A key trade route between Afghanistan and Pakistan is set to reopen in a couple of days after four years of closure, says an official.

The Ghulam Khan crossing-point in North Waziristan Agency, one of the seven notified trade routes with Afghanistan, was shut in 2014.

With the launch of a military offensive against terrorists by the Pakistan Army in the region, the route between the neighbouring countries was closed.

The route would be reopened for bilateral trade for a fortnight on a trial basis with effect from March 7, the area administrator told businesspeople in Miranshah.

Assistant Political Agent Taimur Khan Afridi said a 15-truck convoy laden with export items would leave Miranshah for southeastern Khost province on Wednesday.

Similarly, the official said, vehicles carrying trade items would also enter Pakistan through the Ghulam Khan check-post.

Security forces and the local administration had put in place the required, he said, hinting at the opening of the route permanently.
