UAE- Civil defence contains labour housing fire in Western region

WESTERN REGION, 22nd July 2016 - No injuries were reported, as crews from the civil defence and rapid intervention teams contained a fire which broke out among 50 caravans in a labour housing compound in the Western Region's Al Hamra area.

Lt. Colonel Mohammed Abdul Jalil Al Ansari, Director general of Abu Dhabi Civil Defence, said investigations were now seeking to establish the cause of the fire. He also urged contractors and property owners to adhere to safety precautions when using caravans in construction sites.

He added that the key to preventing fires is maintaining a safe distance between caravans, to ensure they are made of fire-resistant materials, and also to guarantee they are not used for storage purposes.

He further emphasised the importance of providing proper training to workers on the use of fire extinguishers, as well as in how to respond when a fire breaks out.
