Perplex Launches First Hershey-Area Escape Room

What kind of business celebrates its grand opening by locking its doors? As the first escape room in the Hershey area, Perplex does. Like many of these trending venues, Perplex challenges its guests to solve puzzles to escape a mysterious room in just an hour. In this case, a room haunted by the curse of an ancient Egyptian mummy and filled with the cryptic clues of a demented Harvard professor.
Weve created a highly immersive experience, complete with replicas of ancient Egyptian artifacts and a full-scale sarcophagus, said Matt Roy, Perplex Head Game Maker. We did a lot of research. Many escape room experiences are franchised, or simply off-the-rack puzzles. Ours was crafted from the ground up to deliver a completely original, once-in-a-lifetime thrill. A lot of our guests say its just like being in a movie.
Escape rooms are a growing national trend, and found everywhere from cruise ships to corporate team-builders, but Perplex is the first to open in the Hershey area. We knew the community was ripe for this kind of entertainment, explained Paul Murray, Chief Enigmatologist. And we specifically designed the puzzles to appeal to multiple intelligences: spatial logic, deduction, observation, non-linear problem-solving. It makes for a great team-building exercise or just a novel family outing. Weve had 13-year-olds solve clues that baffle adults.
