Morocco Opens Its First Assisted Reproduction Center
(MENAFN- Morocco World News) Morocco has launched its first center for Assisted Reproduction, a fertility center offering infertility treatment, a month after the country adopted a draft law relating to Assisted Reproductive Technology (ART). According the Huffington Post Maroc, the new center was inauguratedon Fridayat Ibn Sina University Hospital in Rabat. The new center provides comprehensive medical care for the treatment of infertile patients. It will accompany patients from diagnosis to treatment. The Government Council passed Bill No. 14-47 relating to Assisted Reproduction, which “aims to strengthen the national legal arsenal in the field of medical sciences and biomedical techniques and to fill in the legal vacuum regarding practices related to medically assisted reproduction,' said Mustapha El Khalfi, Minister of Communications and Spokesperson of the Government. The bill imposes a requirement on health institutions, private centers, and professionals to have professional certification in order to practice the techniques of Assisted Reproductive Technology in accordance with predefined standards. According to the same source, about 825,000 people in Morocco are affected by infertility nearly one in eight couples. Despite the government passing the law relating to this medical specialty, infertility is still not recognized as a health complication, and therefore is not covered by private insurance. The services of this new center will help thousands of patients diagnose their infertility problems and hopefully provide the necessary care and follow up for couples to overcome the problem.
