Kuwait partaks in UN 3rd Int'l Bazaar

NEW YORK May 5 (KUNA) -- Kuwait participated in the third edition of the UN International Bazaar along with 120 other countries under the patronage of UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon's spouse Ban Soon-taek.
Held at the UN headquarters the Bazaar offered traditional merchandising arts and handcrafts with tables representing countries from around the world. The Bazaar also held a section dedicated to food stands where the most popular dishes from dozens of countries were served.
The funds raised will be donated to UNHCR for the Syrian Refugees and to UN Women's Guild administrated projects to help children and women at different locations.
Head of the UN Women's Club and the President of the Organizing Committee of the Bazaar Suad Al-Otaibi told KUNA that Kuwait is always among the first countries to respond to those in need and its cooperation in such events highlights the country's efforts in humanitarian aid.
"Not only Kuwait participated in this event by food and handcrafts but also a contribution of USD 11000 from several state institutions" she said.
The contributions were from Kuwait Airways National Bank of Kuwait Wafra Investment Islamic Cultural Center of New York and Kuwait's Foreign Ministry.
Al-Otaibi hoped that Kuwait this year would also be among the first places in terms of contribution as last year it came in third.
She also expressed her happiness by the crowd's turnout as well as their compassion and solidarity towards the cause of the Bazaar.
Al-Otaibi is the spouse of Kuwait's Permanent Representative to the UN Ambassador Mansour Al-Otaibi. (end) mao.hb
