Saudi- School transport wears modern look as govt buys new 2000 buses


(MENAFN- Arab News) RIYADH: The government has acquired a new fleet of 2000 modern school buses to replace its old fleet according to the Ministry of Education.
Modern and well-equipped transport were purchased at the beginning of the Islamic year to replace more than 1500 old buses that complies with government requirements for safety and technical specification needs the ministry said.
The total number of buses is now 2500 that will serve 1200000 male and female students who benefit from free government school transport service in all regions of the Kingdom and its provinces for the current academic year it said.
The ministry last year acquired 3000 buses pointing out that the Development Services Company for Educational Transport (Tatweer) is responsible for providing the service.
The ministry has identified the required standard and technical specifications for the buses. They include security and safety requirements that correspond to Saudi and other standard specifications. The buses must be yellow and equipped with warning stop signs and a toll-free number to call in case of any problem with the bus or the driver.
The ministry said it had established a toll-free number for comments and suggestions for the provision of services. The number is for the use of parents students and their related-services. The responses will ensure better services and address the shortcomings it said.
