Qatar- Over 5,000 mark Garangao at Freej Aspire

(MENAFN- The Peninsula) Freej Aspire, launched for the first time this year by Aspire Zone Foundation (AZF), hosted thousands of visitors to celebrate Garangao.

The Freej resembled a carnival and combined traditional activities and performances. Children in colourful traditional clothing enjoyed entertainment activities that aimed to celebrate the past.

Children toured the Freej, watched Grandma Memo and Um Khalaf and took part in face painting, puppet show, traditional sports, games and songs.

The children's movie Ponyo, produced by Doha Film Institute was screened. An Al Arda dance, Al Rababah shows, cultural lectures, shows by comedians, storytelling and photography were among the activities.

In another first, Freej Aspire hosted elderly people and members of the local community.

Hussain Al Qahtani, Corporate Communications Manager, AZF, said: "We are delighted to see over 5,000 visitors at the Garangao night.

"This year we introduced a better package of sports, social and cultural activities and events for Ramadan Sports Festival and Freej Aspire.

"We always seek to set the standard for boosting engagement in sports and enriching cultural knowledge. What better occasion than the holy month!"

Freej Aspire in Al Muhairjah features the latest cooling technology to keep the temperature at 25 degrees Celsius.

Its layout is in the shape of adjoining houses based on the traditional Liwan design and includes stores, handicraft workshops, storytelling booths, food stations and other elements to replicate the environment of an authentic Freej.

Activities run daily from 9.30pm to midnight and include 'Sloom Ahel Qatar' in partnership with Qatar Charity to revive local traditions and customs. The programme includes lectures, forums and traditional competitions and give visitors the chance to learn about photography, sailing, falcon training and other traditional activities.
