A similar fall is also usually witnessed in the month of December as well.

As per the data published on the ministry's website, there was a similar fall during the period in all four preceding years.

While the May 2014 figures were 2,174,035, the number fell to 2,151,745 in the following month last year.

Similarly, the population which stood at 1,963,124, on May 31, 2013 fell to 1,916,426 on June 30, 2013.

The pattern was no different either in 2012 as well. While it was 1,795,828 in May, it fell to 1,722,438 the next month.

In 2011, the June population figure was 1,624, 761, against the previous month's 1,703,498.

The latest figures show except for 2014, the fall in population between May and June in all previous years was much bigger than this year's figure.
