(MENAFN- Khaleej Times) Godolphin Racing's Manatee had a decent debut in Group 1, finishing fourth in the Grand Prix de Saint-Cloud, in Saint-Cloud, France.
Trained by Andre Fabre with Mickael Barzalona on board, Manatee took on three of the world's top middle-distance horses - Treve, Dolniya and Flintshire - in the 12-furlong race.
Manatee finished one and a half lengths behind third-placed Dolniya. Treve won the race and followed in by Flintshire.
The four-year-old Monsun colt from Galatee, Manatee was making his Group One debut after battling well for a three quarters of a length victory in the Group Two Grand Prix de Chantilly, also over a mile and a half, at Chantilly in May.
He was fourth on his first appearance of the year in the Group Three Prix d'Hedouville over 12 furlongs at Longchamp in May and won over the same course and distance in the Group Two Prix du Conseil de Paris in October. Meanwhile, Pleascach, winner of the Tattersalls Irish 1,000 Guineas Group 1 at The Curragh in May, came in fifth in the Sea The Stars Pretty Polly Stakes Group 1, also at The Curragh. Pleascach is trained by Jim Bolger and ridden by Kevin Manning.
Meanwhile, Godolphin Racing clinched three third places in other races. Big Blue and Important Time finished third in France, while Tried and True was third in the USA.
Big Blue, the three-year-old son of Galileo from Board Meeting, was half a length behind Five Fifteen, in the Prix Sea Bird Conditions Race in Saint-Cloud, France. Khezerabad won the race.
Trained by Andre Fabre, Big Blue held up in touch in third and pushed along two furlongs out. Ridden by Mickael Barzalona, Big Blue then stayed on the same pace and was never able to challenge the front pair of Khezerabad and Five Fifteen.
This was his third third-place finish in seven starts. Big Blue also has three second-place finishes as well as one win.
Meanwhile, also at Saint-Cloud, Important Time finished third in the Prix Flying Dutchman Conditions Race run over a mile. The four-year-old daughter of Oasis Dream from Satwa Queen, Important Time finished behind Tantris and Gentle Maine.
Important Time, the charge of Henri-Alex Pantall and ridden by Mickael Barzalona, wasn't able to replicate her previous showing. She had won the Prix du Mont-Saint-Michel Conditions race in Saint-Malo, in her previous outing, about a month ago.
In Santa Anita, USA, Tried and True was third in the Allowance Optional Claiming Race. The sire of Medaglia d'Oro from Dearly, Tried and True, the three-year-old colt, finished behind Iron Fist and Grazen Sky.
It was Tried and True's second third-place finish on the bounce after she had finished in the same spot in her previous run last month. Tried and True is trained by Eoin Harty and ridden by Martin A Pedroza.
Strike Tone, saddled by Kiaran McLaughlin and the ride of Irad Ortiz Jr, finished fourth in the Allowance Race in Belmont Park.
