Qatar - Al Wakra Hospital conducts Nursing Grand Round

(MENAFN- Gulf Times) Al Wakra Hospital (AWH), a member of Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC), recently held a Nursing Grand Round as part of continuing nursing education programmes developed by the healthcare organisation to ensure all its nursing professionals practice to the same high standards across the full range of medical specialties.

The incorporation of nursing grand rounds builds on the achievement of becoming the first healthcare organisation in the GCC to be recognised by the American Nursing Credentialing Centre. Grand rounds are an important part of HMC's ongoing support and investment in the development of its nurses and midwives.

Ali al-Naimat, Director of Nursing at AWH's Surgical Division, said: "The present grand round provides our nurses a venue to explore best practices for communicating with patients who have speech and hearing disabilities and to learn new knowledge and skills that will enhance their daily practice. It is also an opportunity to highlight the excellent skills and the dedication of AWH nurses to providing the best possible care to our patients, and to sharing their successes with colleagues across HMC."

Representatives from the Qatar Society for Rehabilitation of Special Needs were present at the event, which featured presentations and discussions on nursing care provided to a patient with speech and hearing impairments who underwent surgery as part of his treatment for benign prostatic hyperplasia (enlargement of the prostate). The nurses assessed the effectiveness of the communication methods they used in interacting with the patient throughout his journey, starting from arrival at the outpatient department until the patient's discharge from the hospital.
