'Kuwait Is A Country Of Freedoms, Backs Rights'

(MENAFN- The Peninsula) The State of Kuwait, under its wise leadership, is a country of freedoms which supports human rights, as well as freedoms of expression and opinion, a Norwegian-based human rights agency said Monday. "We are truly convinced that Kuwait is a country of freedoms," Counselor Aihan Jaf, Secretary- General of the Arab-European Center of Human Rights and International Law (AECHRIL), said in a statement following a recent visit by the agency's delegation to Kuwait, at the invitation of the Ministry of Information.

The people in Kuwait are able to view and receive information and messages from various Kuwaiti official and nonofficial media sources, Jaf said, noting that press and media in Kuwait are freely active inside and outside the country without restrictions, which makes the freedom of opinion and expression a reality that distinguishes the country and its people. If constructive criticism becomes an attribute of freedom of opinion, it would eventually reflect positively on a live interaction between groups and sectors of the society, shedding light on general issues, revealing their negative and positive aspects, and determining ways to avoid future mistakes, said Jaf.

He also said that constructive essence should be embodied in a media effort to accomplish a public interest, adding that AECHRIL has issued a report on the recent visit by the agency's delegation to Kuwait, during which they met with several Kuwaiti officials, as well as heads of various international missions and organizations. Jaf also expressed his gratitude and appreciation to Kuwaiti officials for their strenuous efforts with the AECHRIL delegation, confirming his agency's readiness to hold awareness symposiums and conferences with various Kuwaiti ministries on human rights issues and electoral monitoring.

The AECHRIL is an independent international human rights agency based in Oslo, Norway that aims to provide accurate and reliable information about the human rights situation in general, particularly in the Middle East region, to the international community.
