MP Kandari hits Dashti interview

(MENAFN- Arab Times) KUWAIT CITY April 23: MP Faisal Al-Kandari said there is no room for doubt on the unity of Kuwait's citizens and their relationship with their brothers in the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC). Al-Kandari made the statement in reaction to the telephone interview of his colleague MP Abdul Hameed Dashti with a Lebanese television channel. During the interview with Hezbollah's Al- Manar TV Dashti attacked the Operation Decisive Storm claiming it will backfire on Saudi Arabia and affect its weak parts.

Commenting on the issue Al-Kandari pointed out the Kuwait Armed Forces' response to the instructions of the political leadership is just natural in a world where people have the same destiny. He was surprised by the comment of Dashti whose statement he considers far from the truth.

He asserted the coalition forces agreed to defend the peaceful people of Yemen against the Houthis who want to control power and destabilize the GCC countries. He lamented Dashti talked about the issue as if the people are not aware of the recent incidents in the local political arena. He said Dashti acted like he does not know the stand of Kuwait on the Operation Decisive Storm.

He then quoted HH the Crown Prince Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al- Jaber Al-Sabah as saying that Kuwait joined other GCC countries and the rest of the coalition in stopping the attacks on Yemen and to restore its legitimacy. He argued current incidents in Yemen are threats to the security and stability of GCC countries warning about the dire consequences of these incidents if the necessary action is not taken.

Addressing Dashti Al-Kandari asked: 'Is it not better to pay attention to the opinion of the political leadership under such circumstances? You demanded respect for the leaders' opinion when the country witnessed certain political movements do you listen to the opinion of the rulers based on your temperament? You have no right to infringe on a country that is dear to our hearts in such a despicable manner.

Your motivation for causing division comes only from someone who is mentally ill.' Stressing that Dashti does not represent anyone but himself when he made the statement Al-Kandari cautioned his colleague against instigating sectarian conflicts. He affirmed the people of Kuwait are always united under the political leadership's banner asserting the citizens respect the legitimacy of other countries international charters and humanity in general. Responding to those who criticized him for his stand on the Operation Decisive Storm Dashti retorted it is unfortunate that some MPs are addressing a serious political issue which they don't understand in a shallow manner.

Meanwhile the Education Guidance and Cultural Affairs Committee will organize a seminar at the National Assembly to discuss the new electronic media law and proposed amendments to the audio-visual printing and publishing laws at 10:00 am from April 27 to 29. Representatives of the concerned government agencies and non-profit organizations as well as media experts are among those expected to attend the seminar. In another development MP Hamoud Al-Hamdan has forwarded questions to Minister of Information Sheikh Salman Al-Hamoud Al-Sabah on prohibiting display of some books written by Islamic scholars in the 40th Islamic Book Exhibition organized by the Islamic Social Reform Society. He pointed out it has been reported that the director of the exhibition said the Ministry of Information has banned the books of the late Islamic scholar Sheikh Ahmad ibn Taymiyah.

He added several news media outfits and social networking sites also published reports on banning the books of two prominent Islamic scholars former mufti of Saudi Arabia Sheikh Abdul Aziz bin Baz and former member of senior scholars in the Kingdom Sheikh Mohammed bin Uthaymeen. He wants to know if the reports are true while requesting for relevant information such as names of the members of the censorship committee their qualifications and reasons for banning the books.
