Qatar Shell wins Reyada entrepreneurial support award


(MENAFN- The Peninsula) Qatar Shell was recognised at the Reyada Award ceremony for the company's outstanding support to Qatari entrepreneurs and small and medium enterprises (SMEs).

H E Sheikha Al Mayassa bint Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, presented Qatar Shell with the 'Outstanding Entrepreneurial Support' Gold Award in recognition of the company's successful corporate social responsibility initiatives.

In partnership with Qatar Development Bank, Qatar Shell provides local SMEs with tangible business opportunities within its supply chain. Additionally, Qatar Shell, in collaboration with Bedaya, runs the 'Enterprise Challenge Qatar,' a programme that supports and inspires young people in Qatar to become future entrepreneurs. Another programme that supports emerging leaders is the 'Navigator,' which is run in collaboration with Qatar Business Incubator Centre (QBIC), Social Development Center (SDC), and Silatech.

The Reyada Award, launched by the Social Development Centre (SDC), is the leading entrepreneurship programme in Qatar, designed to celebrate Qatari entrepreneurs and the supporters of entrepreneurship.

Commenting on the award Qatar Shell's Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Manager, Mohammed Abu Jbara, said: "We are extremely proud to receive this recognition. This award reflects our commitment to support the Qatar National Vision 2030; together with our Qatari partners, QDB and Bedaya, we seek to create long-term business opportunities for Qatari SMEs as well as inspire the future generation to consider entrepreneurship as a career."

In 2013, QDB and Qatar Shell launched The 'SME Business Opportunity', a programme that contributes to the development of the private sector in Qatar. During the 2014 edition, seven new business opportunities were presented to Qatari SMEs to become suppliers of choice to the Pearl GTL, the world's largest gas to liquids plant delivered by Qatar Shell and Qatar Petroleum. Five new Qatari SMEs were awarded with contracts for Pearl GTL, bringing the total number of awarded local SMEs to eight for the period of 2013-2014.

In addition to its efforts to support existing local SMEs, Qatar Shell in partnership with Bedaya Centre launched the 'Enterprise Challenge Qatar' in 2012; a programme aimed at inspiring young people to consider entrepreneurship as a career option.
