Man forges school certificate to secure job in Dubai

Dubai — An unemployed man has been brought to trial for allegedly forging a high school certificate and submitting it while applying for a job at a driving institute in Dubai.

The 27-year-old Palestinian faced forgery and use of forged document charges in the Court of First Instance.

According to the prosecution records the accused identified as M.B. changed several details in the certificate copy including the original holder’s name. He changed the year of issuance and date of birth and used it by falsely claiming it was issued from the Ministry of Education.

The incident dates back to October 20 last year.

An Egyptian PRO at the institute said that M.B. submitted a high school certificate when he was first hired by them. “He was requested to submit it so a work permit could be issued from the Ministry of Labour. The certificate copy was handed over to the company’s legal representative to verify its authenticity at the Ministry of Education. It became clear that the copy was forged.”

The PRO told the prosecutor that M.B. replaced the original holder’s name with his own name. He also changed the issuance year of 2009-2010 to 2005-2006 and also the date of birth in addition to other relevant details.

The witness added that when questioned in an internal probe M.B. claimed the certificate was not his own and that he was not aware whether it was authentic or not. He said he did not have the original.

The court heard that the accused was hired as a general receptionist a position which required he holds a certain qualification.

A driving instruction supervisor said the accused was suspended from work when the administration learnt about the fake certificate. “He claimed he got the certificate from a school he attended in Ajman but did not show any reaction when he was suspended” the Sudanese instructor said during investigation.

M.B. admitted to the Public Prosecution that the signature on the fake copy was his own.
