Kuwait- WHO strives to enhance int'l clinics readiness to prevent Ebola spread - expert

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) The World Health Organization (WHO) strives to work on containing the Ebola virus and preventing it from spreading to other parts of the world, providing guidelines to deal with the virus and enhancing the readiness of medical centers in various countries, including GCC states, an expert stated Tuesday.

The GCC region is Ebola-free as no case of infection has been recorded so far, Dr. Hasan Al-Beshri, a WHO expert, told KUNA on the sidelines of a visit by a WHO team of experts to the Kingdom, excluding at the same time the possibility of staying permanently immune from the deadly virus as infected individuals from Ebola-hit countries can travel to any place around the world.

There is not any country that is well-protected from arrival of Ebola into its lands as some infected individuals have travelled to countries such as the US, Spain, and Nigeria, and were eventually placed under quarantine, Al-Beshri noted, stressing importance to train entry ports workers and medical centers staff workers on ways to deal with such cases.

The virus is very dangerous and fatal as over 5,000 people died from it, and around 13,000 others are currently infected by it, the WHO expert said, adding that only small percentage of infected people were cured from the deadly virus.

The death situations from Ebola remain very high as the maximum period of containing the infected is no more than 21 days, said Al-Beshri.
