This program is linked with the employment needs of Canada and allows people possessing these skills to move to Canada in a few months time rather than having to wait for years. Immigration to Canada that was passive earlier now becomes active recruitment with Express Entry that is similar to point based system of New Zealand and SkillSelect of Australia.
Express Entry according to Chris Alexander Minister of Immigration and Citizenship is meant to fulfill the shortage of skilled individuals in various industries in Canada and it reflects a departure from the earlier first come first serve basis to active recruitment. At a conference Chris said that immigration authorities had to process the applications in the order of their receiving. However with Express Entry that is set to be introduced in January 2015 skilled individuals would find it easier to move to Canada with their applications being processed in as little as 6 months time.
All one has to do under this system is to submit a document called Expression of Interest containing his resume. The details go into a database that is accessible to employers seeking killed workers. Employers can look into this database to select individuals and offer them jobs. Individuals with job offer get a priority when they apply for immigration to Canada. Express Entry covers all existing employment programs like Canadian experience class skilled trades program and skilled worker program.
However not everyone is happy with this new immigration initiative as there is a provision to remove the names of individuals from the database after a period. The reason behind this move is to allow a chance to those who are more likely to get a job in Canada rather than to allow names to languish in the database. There are also immigrants already in Canada who are still unemployed. These individuals are desirous of support from government in securing jobs.
More than 33000 skilled Indians migrated to Canada in 2013. More than half of these belonged to the category of economy and business.
