Jumeira University awards scholarships worth over AED10 million to high school students


(MENAFNEditorial) Jumeira University (JU), a leading Dubai-based private higher education institute in the UAE, has announced that it will be awarding scholarships worth more than AED10 million to Emirati and expatriate high school students who have applied for enrolment at the university.

The university's move is in line with its commitment to encourage graduate students to achieve high academic results within a framework of healthy competition, with the ultimate aim of furthering the educational goals of in the UAE and strengthening the aspirations of this year's graduates. It also aims to strengthen the university's significant role in building a scientific and academic structure that supports scientific advancement as well as the advancement of knowledge in order to keep pace with the impressive development seen by the country across all fields and sectors.

The scholarship programme makes provision for nine types of scholarships, including Emirati and expatriate students, scholarships for members of the same family and low-income families, as well as scholarships awarded based on academic performance.

Speaking on the occasion, Abdulla Khlifa AIMuhairi the president of Jumeira University, said, "We are extremely pleased to be in the position to award scholarships to a large number of deserving students this year. Enabling the largest possible number of individuals to obtain a tertiary qualification is a vital part of transitioning into a knowledge-based society, which is why at Jumeira University investing in our scholarship programme is a key priority. We look forward to guiding our scholarship awardees as they embark on their higher education journey and are confident of the positive contribution that they will undoubtedly be making to advancing the UAE's scientific progress."

First among the academic achievement scholarships is The Khalifa Scholarship, which involves covering the payment of tuition fees for 20 Emirati students who achieved an overall grade of 80% or higher in their high school certificate, while the Al Fursan scholarship is to be awarded to eight expatriate students who scored 90% or higher in general secondary school certificate this year. The university will also offer Mujtamee Scholarship, which covers tuition fees for one full academic year for all students who scored 75% on a proportional basis, as well as a general academic achievement scholarship, which is a discount of up to 15% off tuition fees awarded to full time students on the basis their academic performance every year.

In support lessening the financial burden that tertiary education can entail, the university will award the Family Scholarship, which gives a 10% tuition discount for students from the same family (siblings), as well as the Entry Scholarship, a partial scholarship ranging from 25%-75% of tuition fees for each academic year for students of families with limited incomes. It also includes the early admission scholarship, which is awarded to students who meet all terms and conditions for admission, provided that they submit their admission applications before 31 July. This scholarship offers students a 10% tuition discount in the first academic year on a proportional basis.

The scholarship programme also includes a community engagement scholarship for students from schools or institutions that have a partnership agreement with the Jumeira University. This scholarship gives students a 20% tuition discount, and is awarded annually on a proportional basis. The university furthermore provides the English Programme Scholarship, which gives students 35% tuition discount for students in all levels of the English programme.

A higher education institute established in 2012, Jumeira University offers advanced education in both English and Arabic in a range of disciplines and specialties in the sciences, arts, and humanities. Situated in Al Quoz Area 4 in Dubai, Jumeira University is comprised of four colleges: the College of Islamic & Arabic Studies, the College of Business Administration, the College of Education, and the College of Health Sciences.

The campus features 24 classrooms and state-of-art facilities, including science and information technology labs, two libraries, language & audio learning centres, mobile access adapted facilities and labs, an auditorium, a modern multi-sport hall, and two cafeterias. The university's campus is divided equally for male and female students to ensure segregation and fair education.
