(MENAFN - Arab News) A mystery genetic disorder has claimed the life of the last of six saudi siblings all of whom died of the disease.
nine-month-old rawdah al-shahrani who had been sent abroad for treatment three weeks ago upon directives issued by custodian of the two holy mosques king abdullah died saturday morning in the united states.
rawda had gone to the us together with her family.
rawda's uncle told local media that his brother had lost his five other children at the same age to the same disease.
'no one has been able to figure out what this disease is" he said.
'my children used to suffer from lethargy dizziness difficulty breathing and forgetfulness from as early as six months of age" said rawda's father. 'the symptoms would continue to get worse until they died."
'my first child was inflicted with the disease 15 years ago" he said. 'i had taken him to a hospital in asir at the time. they conducted tests and sent me home but his condition deteriorated and he died. my other four children later met the same fate."
'i had visited a specialist hospital military hospital and other major hospitals in the kingdom including the king faisal specialist hospital but no one was able to diagnose the case" he told local media.
'i went into debt after borrowing money to travel to egypt oman the united arab emirates and other countries in search of a cure for my children but i failed and resorted to posting a video on youtube.
'i received many calls afterward the most important of which came from the office of prince miteb bin abdullah national guard minister. the prince had followed up with me about my daughter's conditions and his office asked for medical reports at the time.
'it was then that i had received a phone call saying that my daughter can be treated abroad after which i was given emergency financial aid" he said.
