Trade deficit in Bangladesh narrows 22 percent


(MENAFN) The trade deficit in Bangladesh during the first 8 months of the current fiscal year 2013/2014 narrowed 22.57 percent to USD3.56 billion, Xinhua reported. Bangladesh's import hit a total of USD23.14 billion in the period, increasing 6.24 percent, while exports surged nearly 14 percent to USD19,58 billion. The Bangladesh Bank (BB) released data that shows the gap between the country's exports and imports payments hit around USD4.6 billion. Remittances from nearly 9 million Bangladeshis helped offset the impact of the trade shortfall and kept the overall balance of payments in surplus,, officials said.
