Kuwait 14th Camel Racing Championship kicks off


(MENAFN- Arab Times) Representative of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, Minister of Information and Minister of State for Youth Affairs Sheikh Salman Al-Sabah, inaugurated on Sunday Kuwait's 14th Camel Racing Championship, held under His Highness the Amir's auspices



His Highness' sponsorship reflects his interest in traditional sports, which were practiced by Kuwait's founding fathers, Sheikh Salman told reporters, saying he was proud to represent His Highness the Amir. The wide Kuwaiti, Arab, and international participation at the event proves success of this tournament, he said, expressing his hope that participating camels attain positive results, and that spectators enjoy good and competitive racings



Sheikh Salman also lauded the Public Authority for Youth and Sports (PAYS) and Kuwait Camel Racing Club for their distinctive organization and preparation of the five-day tournament, which includes total of 72 races, expressing his gratitude to UAE Vice President, Prime Minister and Dubai Ruler, Sheikh Mohammad bin Rashed Al-Maktoum for his significant support of the tournament. Over 2,000 camels are racing in the tournament, which is held at the Martyr Fahad Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah track at Kuwait Camel Race Club
