Kuwait- Taxi Driver Freed

(MENAFN- Arab News) The Court of Appeals presided over by Judge Salem Al-Khader upheld the verdict issued by the Court of First Instance, which acquitted an Egyptian taxi driver of drug peddling

The court also overturned the sentence of four-year imprisonment with hard labor issued against him for drug consumption. It instead ordered the suspect to be referred to Psychiatric Hospital for one year for drug addiction rehabilitation.

The court insisted that the concerned committee must present a report regarding the suspect along with its recommendations to the court after one year. According to the case files, the officers of Directorate General for Drug Control received information about the Egyptian expatriate's activities and conducted secret investigations.

After confirming the information, the officers obtained an arrest-and-search warrant and raided his apartment where they found several pills that they suspected to be drugs. The suspect was arrested and referred with the pills to the concerned authorities for necessary legal measures
