French farmers unleash flock of sheep in world-famous Louvre

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) Disgruntled French farmers on Friday unleashed a flock of sheep in the world-famous Louvre museum to protest planned changes to European agriculture policy, museum officials confirmed

The officials said that no damage was caused to exhibits and the sheep were mainly running in areas where shops and commercial outlets are located

The farmers, waving yellow protest banners, released about a dozen sheep, much to the amusement of visitors, and the animals were pretty much kept under control, the official said

While amusing to some, the Louvre staff said they did not really appreciate the prank which was designed as a publicity stunt to draw attention to the difficulties French farmers face and the tougher conditions new European legislation are likely to bring

Farming in Europe is heavily subsidized by funds from Brussels, with Germany and France big recipients of financial support from the EU, which is seeking to reform the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) and reduce subsidies.
