The world number 114 will face Argentina's Federico Delbonis in the final of the ATP 250 clay-court event having seen the German top seed retire with a shoulder injury with Lorenzi 6-3 3-2 ahead.

Lorenzi, who knocked out fourth seed Juan Monaco in the quarter-finals, came from 3-2 down in the first set to move ahead in the match thanks to two breaks of serve

The second was going with serve until Haas was unable to continue, describing his withdrawal as "unfortunate" before adding: "I hate retiring in matches

"I was playing pretty good tennis here and maybe had the chance to get to another final," the ATP Tour website quotes Haas as saying

"It's always disappointing when you know that you have an injury, you cannot play the way you want.

Delbonis, whose sole ATP Tour final appearance came last year in Hamburg, will be eager to make amends for defeat to another Italian, Fabio Fognini, in Germany against Lorenzi on Sunday.

He sent wildcard and home favourite Thomaz Bellucci crashing out after an enthralling 6-4 6-7 (5-7) 6-4 win that lasted more than two hours.

At 4-3 down in the third set, Delbonis broke twice in the final three games to make it three wins from three against the Brazilian and set up a first meeting with Lorenzi
