Attiyah Wins Qatar International Rally

(MENAFN- Qatar News Agency) Nasser Al-Attiyah has made it 11 wins out of 12 on the Qatar International Rally with a comfortable victory over fellow Qatari Abdulaziz Al-Kuwari. In doing so the Ford Fiesta RRC driver already holds the advantage in his quest for a 10th Middle East title with a seven-point lead over his compatriot. Al-Attiyah trailed Al-Kuwari by 5.5s starting Saturday's final leg but was in front by stage eight. With Al-Kuwari's Fiesta RRC slowed by a broken driveshaft, Al-Attiyah was able to pull clear and win by 30.1s. "Everyone knows I enjoy competing here in Qatar and it's a special feeling to win here," said Al-Attiyah. "It was not easy € credit to Abdulaziz for his performance. It's always important to get points on the board for the championship and winning is always special." Al-Kuwari, who was fastest on five stages, said: "I gave it my best shot and am pleased with my performance. Nasser's record here speaks for itself and I am delighted to have pushed him so hard." Abu Dhabi Racing's Khalid Al-Qassimi finished a distant third in his Citroen DS3 RRC having been hampered by a radiator glitch and unspecified tyre issues. Yazeed Al-Rajhi restarted on day two after he dropped out with driveshaft failure on Friday. Several rapid stage times enabled him to outgun Abdullah Al-Kuwari for fourth on the final test. Inaugural Abu Dhabi Racing-Citroen Middle East Trophy honours went to Mohamed Al-Mutawaa, who finished sixth overall in his DS3 R3T
