Egypt erupts in joy as military topples president

(MENAFN) Egyptians demands to put Muslims brotherhood reign to an end have paid off as a televised statement presented by top commander Abdel Fattah al-Sisi with presence of other prominent religious and political figures announcing that Mursi is no longer the head of the state of Egypt and the country will go through transitional period till a democratically elected present fills presidency chair. The announcement came after the expiration of a 48 hours grace period given by military to the disputed parts to come to a peaceful and diplomatic settlement that ended with no clear agreement. The president of the supreme constitutional court is to act as interim head of state, assisted by an interim council and a technocratic government until new presidential and parliamentary elections is held. "Those in the meeting have agreed on a roadmap for the future that includes initial steps to achieve the building of a strong Egyptian society that is cohesive and does not exclude anyone and ends the state of tension and division," Sisi said in an address broadcast live on state television. Egyptians hailed the military actions that saved the country from a dramatic fall that could've ended in an undesirable way, international and regional responses mostly congratulated Egyptians on their strong will and yearning for change. It's worth noting that the overthrown president hasn't finished a year in presidency.
