(MENAFN - Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) RIYADH, Nov 5 (KUNA) -- Secretary General of the Gulf Cooperation Council Abdullatif Al-Zayani on Sunday condemned the ballistic missile attack by Yemen's Houthis and ousted president Ali Abdullah Saleh targeting the Saudi capital of Riyadh.
This is a "cowardly terrorist attack that manifests the state of confusion" of the Houthis-Saleh group and their "insistence to carry on with exposing the region's security and stability to grave dangers," Al-Zayani said in a statement.
He lauded the efficiency of Saudi Arabia's air defenses for intercepting the missile before it could reach its target.
The GCC chief regretted the Houthis and Saleh's rejection of peace, thus putting the Yemeni people in the middle of war.
Al-Zayani urged the international community to firmly stand against targeting cities with ballistic missiles.
The coalition supporting legitimacy in Yemen announced Saturday night that Saudi Arabia's air defenses had intercepted a ballistic missile fired from Yemen towards Riyadh.
The missile was fired from Yemen close to the capital Riyadh, aimed to target civilians at residential areas. It was destroyed over the capital and fragments landed in an unpopulated area east of King Khaled International Airport. (end) mdm.msa
