Kuwait- UNESCO condemns horrendous bomb attack in Somalia

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) PARIS, Oct 19 (KUNA) -- The UNESCO body on Thursday condemned what it said was "a horrendous attack" that killed close to 300 people in the Somali capital, Mogadishu, last weekend and lamented the huge loss of life in the terrorist operation.

"There is no justification for the slaughter of civilians and it is essential that violence should not be allowed to curtail freedom of expression and the media's ability to work," UNESCO Director-General Irina Bokova said.

She lamented the loss of local journalist Ali Nur Siad-Ahmed who was killed in the blast, while four other journalists were among the injured.

"I condemn this horrendous attack," Bokova indicated in the statement. (end) jk.sd
