Port City Colombo says steps have been taken to prevent any impact on historical sites situated in close proximity of the Port City.
The assurance was given when Ranjan Dharmawardena, President Mithripala Sirisena's Chief of Staff made an observation tour of the Port City Colombo project site.
He was accompanied by a group of officials from the Presidential Secretariat, including the Chief Engineer, Additional Secretaries, Senior Assistant and Assistant Secretaries to the President.
The Project Director of Port City Colombo, Nihal Fernando, and Wang Hao, Employer Representative of CHEC Port City Colombo (Pvt) Ltd, the investing company, made technical presentations on the progress and current status of the project to visiting officials.
They highlighted measures taken to mitigate any possible impacts due to dynamic compaction under the real-time vibration monitoring done by the Geological Survey and Mines Bureau (GSMB).
The Project team also explained the migratory measures taken to prevent any impact on historical sites situated in close proximity of the site, including the Presidential Secretariat, Lighthouse, Sambodhi Chaithya as explained in the EIA.
The Chief of Staff commended the project team for the preventive action planned and expressed his appreciation of the local and Chinese staff for their committed efforts to make this project a success. (Colombo Gazette)
