Doha: Qatar's hosting of the World Cup is not up for discussion or negotiation, Government Communications Office

Qatar yesterday said that UAE officials comments were just "petty jealousy" from the UAE.

The Director of the Government Communications Office Sheikh Saif bin Ahmed bin Saif Al-Thani said in a press statement, that UAEs demand that Qatar give up the World Cup shows their illegal blockade is founded on petty jealousy, not real concerns.

'Their weak attempts to tie the hosting of the 2022 FIFA World Cup to their illegal blockade show their desperation to justify their inhumane action, he noted, adding there has never been a legitimate reason for the illegal blockade of Qatar, and this is further proof of that.

He said this demand is a clear attempt to undermine our independence. The World Cup, like our sovereignty is not up for discussion or negotiation, he said.

He asserted that Qatar will host the first World Cup in the Middle East, which is its positive benefits and impact will extend beyond Qatar and throughout the Middle East.

Earlier UAE state minister for foreign affairs Anwar Gargash tweeted supporting another UAE official's admission that they had set off the crisis with Qatar to withdraw the 2022 world cup from Qatar.

"If the World Cup goes away from Qatar, the Qatar crisis will go away ... because the crisis is fabricated in order to break it," Dhahi Khalfan, Head of General Security for the Emirate of Dubai,

said in a tweet through his account on Twitter.
