(MENAFN - Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) BERLIN, Oct 6 (KUNA) -- The German Government on Friday congratulated The International Campaign to Abolish Nuclear Weapons for winning the Nobel Peace Prize (2017).
The German Government supports global nuclear arms' proliferation, said the government deputy spokesperson, Ulrike Demmer, at a news conference.
However, she criticized efforts that had been exerted by the campaign, persuading 122 states to sign the UN nuclear arms disarmament convention, last July.
The deal has been rebuffed by Germany, globe's seven nuclear powers and all NATO member States. The accord opponents argue that nuclear powers, namely the US and Russia, must take part in the agreement.
The Norwegian Nobel Prize Committee declared, earlier today, granting the prize to the campaign for its enormous efforts to rid the globe of nuclear weapons. (end) anj.rk
