French Interior Min. orders investigation on Marseille attacker's release

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) PARIS, Oct 2 (KUNA) -- French Interior Minister Gerard Collomb on Monday ordered an "Internal Affairs" police investigation after it was revealed here that the Marseille knife attacker, who killed two young women on Sunday, was in police custody the previous day but was released.

The attacker, who is still being formally identified, has used seven different identities in the past and presented a Tunisian passport after he was arrested for shop-lifting in Lyon on Saturday.

He was not placed in custody and was released but 24 hours later he committed two murders in front of the Marseille railway station.

He is known to have had several brushes with the law over the past decade or so.

Collomb said in a statement that he wanted answers about "the administrative procedures followed" in the arrest of the attacker and the decision to release him.

The report is to be supplied by the police investigation arm within a week, the Interior Ministry said. (Pick up previous) jk.ibi
