Half of Morocco's GDP Comes from Casablanca and Rabat Regions: HCP


(MENAFN- Morocco World News) Rabat – Economic activity in Casablanca-Settat and Rabat-Salé-Kénitra generated almost half of the national GDP in 2015, according to the High Commission for Planning, in a report on that year's regional accounts published September 18.

The HCP indicated that GDP disparities between regions have increased, from MAD 53.1 billion in 2014 to MAD 56.9 billion in 2015.

While only two regions, Casablanca-Settat (32.2 percent) and Rabat-Salé-Kénitra (16 percent) created 48.2 percent of national GDP, it took five other regions to generate the remaining 40.4 percent.

The Tangier-Tetouan-Al Hoceima region provided 10.1 percent, Fes-Meknes gave 9percent, Marrakech-Safi gave8.9 percent, Souss-Massa gave 6.5 percentand Béni Mellal-Khénifra gave 5.8 percent.

The eastern regions of Drâa-Tafilalet and the three regions of the south contributed only 11.3 percent to national GDP.

In 2015, agriculture and fisheries accounted for 12.6 percent of GDP, exceeding the national average in the majority of regions.

The two sectors contributed 26.8 percent to the GDP of the Dakhla-Oued-Ed Dahab region, 19.9 percent ??to the GDP of the Fes-Meknes region, and 19.8 percent to the GDP of the Beni Mellal-Khénifra region, while Casablanca-Settat regions recorded the lowest share with 5.4 percent.

Industry, mining, electricity and water supply, construction, and public works accounted for 26.1 percent of GDP at the national level in 2015, with four regions recording GDP above the national average: Casablanca- Settat with 36.2 percent, Béni Mellal-Khénifra with 33.7percent, Laâyoune-Saguia al Hamra with 32 percent, and Tangier-Tétouan-Al Hoceima with 31.2 percent.
