The recent visit of President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev to the US and following negotiations on a range of issues amid the 72nd session of the UN General Assembly caused many positive afterwords of the participants.

'It was a pleasure to meet President Mirziyoyev and his delegation. Uzbekistan's authorities are embarking on ambitious reforms, spearheaded by the recent foreign exchange reform. We very much welcome these initiatives, which are vital to strengthening the economy, creating more jobs, and achieving sustainable and inclusive growth,' said Christine Lagarde, managing director of the International Monetary Fund, summarizing her talks with the Uzbek president.

She added that Uzbekistan's reform journey will be challenging and long.

Lagarde also reiterated the International Monetary Fund's commitment to partner with Uzbekistan in its journey to put the economy on a higher growth path and achieve better living standards for its people.

'I congratulated President Mirziyoyev on his initiatives to improve regional cooperation with Uzbekistan's neighbors,' said Lagarde.

'Regional cooperation is much needed to deal with the region's biggest challenges, such as sharing water resources, creating an efficient regional energy grid, and facilitating transportation.'

President of Uzbekistan also met and held negotiations with UN Secretary General António Guterres, President of the World Bank Group Jim Yong Kim, and the leaders of a number of countries who arrived at the UN General Assembly in New York.
