(MENAFN - Tribal News Network) MIRANSHAH, 15 September: The repatriation process of temporarily displaced persons (TDPs) of Dandy Darpakhel tribe of North Waziristan Agency has been suspended over security concerns.
According to the repatriation schedule, the return of Dandy Darpakhel tribe initiated on 7 September and 1,200 families reached their native areas till 12 September. However, the administration says that it has now suspended the process for an indefinite period due to some unavoidable circumstances. It said a new schedule will be issued for resumption of repatriation process.
Sources said the administration decided to suspend the repatriation process after death of a person in a landmine explosion inside a house in the said area. The administration is planning to clear the whole area from landmines before giving a final go ahead to the TDPs to return home.
The existence of landmines in residential areas of FATA has become a matter of grave concern for the tribal people and administration. A SAFRON Committee meeting few days ago expressed concern over the matter, while a Jirga on the issue was also organised in South Waziristan Agency on Thursday. The Jirga had demanded the government to clear all landmines from FATA.
