Turkish police eliminates suicide bomber in southern Turkey

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) ANKARA, Sept 6 (KUNA) -- An attempted suicide bombing on a police station in Mersin city, south of Turkey, was thwarted by the Turkish security forces, said a media source on Wednesday.

The Anadolu Agency reported that the police intercepted and opened fire on the bomber before he was able to inflict damage. The agency added that the armed man might belong to the so-called Islamic State (IS).

The worst IS aggression against Turkey was in 2015 when a terrorist attack resulted in the death 103 individuals in Ankara. (end) rs.sm
