IAEA cooperates with Algeria in nuclear field- Amano


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) ALGIERS Feb 29 (KUNA) -- The visiting General Director of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Yukiya Amano revealed on Monday that the international agency and Algeria have been developing key nuclear projects in the country.Amano speaking as he emerged from a meeting with Algerian Foreign Ministry Secretary General Abdelhamid Senouci Bereksi labeled Algeria "as a very important partner" for the IAEA and described the bilateral relations as "excellent." Amano did not elaborate on the joint ventures being executed by the two sides in the nuclear energy sector. However the Foreign Ministry said in a statement that Amano's two-day visit to the country aimed at discussing mutual technical cooperation for peaceful harnessing of nuclear energy.Reportedly Algeria operates some nuclear-powered installations such as the Nur water-moderated reactor for training and research and other facilities for limited production of some fuel elements and radioisotopes used in medicine.
