Abeer Nehme to launch Umsiyat Series for Abu Dhabi Music Programme

ABU DHABI 21st January 2016 (WAM) -- The Umsiyat series a programme of outdoor performances combining music and poetry celebrating heritage launches on Sunday with a performance by renowned Lebanese singer Abeer Nehme at Mushrif Central Park in Abu Dhabi.

Umsiyat will be held until March and runs alongside the Abu Dhabi Classics season and Bait Al Oud concerts embracing the 'Music and Poetry' theme of the Abu Dhabi Tourism and Culture Authority's TCA Abu Dhabi Music Programme.

Organised under the patronage of H.H. Sheikha Shamsa bint Hamdan Al Nahyan the Umsiyat performances are designed to integrate different forms of music and to translate a poetical dialogue facilitated by shared musical understanding keeping in line with the Arabic definition of universality.

The series will combine music and poetry from the United Arab Emirates Azerbaijan Lebanon Pakistan and Turkey and will feature some of the most renowned artistes in their field including performers such as Faiz Ali Faiz and Alim Qasimov and the Ney master Kudsi Erguner.

Abeer Nehme is an expert international crossover singer composer and musicologist. She is renowned for her unique talents in performing different music styles with great ease and professionalism. She performs Arabic traditional Tarab traditional Middle Eastern folk songs Arabo Andalusian songs Ancient Syriac Aramaic Byzantine and Maronite chants opera and Western music.

She is considered to be the first Arabic singer and one of the few worldwide to perform in more than twenty five languages which makes her the emissary of cultural and musical dialogue in the region.

Tickets for the performance which starts at 8:00 p.m. are available from AED50 to AED200 via ticketmaster[dot]ae.
