Algeria Denies 'Humiliation' And Apology to Morocco's Former Prime Minister

(MENAFN- Morocco World News) Algerian officials have denied all allegations on the reported 'humiliating' luggage search and consequent apology on the case of Morocco's former Prime Minister. On December 26 it was reported that former PM Abderrahman Youssoufi had been 'humiliated' at the Algiers Airport when his luggage was searched as if he 'were a terrorist.' Earlier this week Moroccan media outlets reported that Algeria had apologized to Morocco.

It was reported that the Chief of Protocol of the Presidency of Algeria visited the Embassy of Morocco in Algiers and presented apologies to Morocco for their lack of respect and diplomacy in the treatment of Youssoufi.

However on Sunday according to Yabiladi news website Algeria denied the entire case of the 'humiliating bag search' to the former Moroccan official and said that no 'apology' had been presented to Morocco.

'The investigations undertaken have concluded that Youssoufi was treated at the hall of honor of the capital of the airport with the respect due to a senior former official and known politician of the brother State such as Morocco” Algerian daily El Kahabar said according to the same source.

Algeria's Ministry of Foreign Affairs refuted the information reported by Moroccan media claiming that Youssoufi “was greeted with the respect due to a statesman.”

Neither the Moroccan government nor Youssoufi have reacted to Algeria's position on the incident.

Abderrahman Youssoufi visited Algeria on December 26 to offer his condolences to the Socialist Forces Front (FFS) following the death Hocine Ait Ahmed.

On his way back to Morocco Algerian customs officers reportedly searched Youssoufi's luggage as if he 'were a terrorist not a respected leader.'

When he arrived in Morocco the former Prime Minister he realized all of his personal belongings had been thoroughly searched.

A source close to Youssoufi was quoted as saying 'The disorder was indescribable even in his most intimate belongings. This has affected Si Yossoufi greatly. He felt humiliated.'

After the incident it was reported that the former PM was preparing to file a formal complaint on the case. However no official denunciation has been filed as of yet.
