MEC inspection drive in Al Khor, Al Shamal

(MENAFN - Gulf Times) More than 40 violations were detected during an inspection campaign carried out by the Ministry of Economy and Commerce (MEC) at commercial outlets in Al Khor and Al Shamal on Friday.

A total of 32 violations of consumer protection norms were registered in Al Khor and 10 in Al Shamal.

In Al Khor, the violations were detected at shops selling fish, vegetables, fruits, fishing gear, different kinds of tools, electric appliances and other items, in addition to a number of eateries.

The irregularities mostly pertained to not displaying proper price tags for the items on display or services offered, asking for higher prices than the ones originally posted and not issuing proper invoices.

In Al Shamal, violations were spotted at shops selling computers and electronics, fish, fishing gear and other items. Some eateries were also found flouting the norms.

Most of the irregularities were about pricing issues and invoices. Such violations are punishable with a temporary administrative closure of an outlet and fines ranging from QR3,000 to QR1mn or any of these penalties.
