(MENAFN - Daily News Egypt) Tens gathered in front of the Press Syndicate Monday in solidarity with the Palestinian resistance, a day after a similar stand organised by the Egyptian branch of the Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions (BDS) movement, the Press Syndicate and the Popular Movement to Support the Intifada took place at the same venue.
On Sunday, prominent figures, including writer Ahdaf Soueif, lawyer Khaled Ali, and politician Abdel Moneim Aboul Fotouh, participated in a press conference that followed a stand organised in front of the syndicate.
Tuesday witnessed the eruption of student protests in several spots in Hebron, amid clashes between Palestinian students and Israeli security forces, state-owned Al-Ahram reported.
Israeli forces used live ammunition, rubber bullets and tear gas to confront protestors, leading to injuries, local Palestinian sources reported.
Hundreds have staged protests in European capitals like London and Paris in the past few days, voicing their support for Palestinians and expressing their anger against Israel's methods of dealing with Palestinian protestors.
Violence between Israelis and Palestinians has escalated over the past month, amid speculations of a possible third uprising or intifada. By Sunday night, 42 Palestinians and eigh Israelis were reported dead by Reuters.
The violence was initially re-ignited by Palestinian anger over what many saw as Jewish encroachment on Jerusalem's Al-Aqsa Mosque compound. Israeli police has been imposing restrictions over access to the holy site for "security reasons", amid heightened tensions.
