Lightning kills 20 people S. India

(MENAFN - Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) At least 20 people died while many more sustained injuries on Sunday evening as they were hit by lightning amid torrential rains in several South Indian states.
Six people died in the Nellore district, four each died in Krsihna and Prakasam districts. Three deaths were reported from Guntur, two from East Godavari and one from each of Anantapur and Srikakulam districts, Indo Asian News Agency reported, citing government sources.
The agency added that parts of Andhra Pradesh and Telengana received heavy rains due to the low pressure area over Bay of Bengal.
The incessant rains have resulted in floods in various low-laying parts of the state and vehicular traffic was disturbed as roads were inundated.
An emergency meeting was called by Chief Minister of the State N. Chandrababu Naidu to assess the situation.
Meanwhile, the Indian Meteorological Department warned that these regions are prone to more down-pouring in the coming three days.
