"At around 9:30pm, a female suicide bomber, a teenager, attempted to enter the popular Umar Bin Khattab Mosque... but was denied entry," Kano police spokesman Magaji Majiya told Anadolu Agency on Tuesday morning.

"She blew herself up instantly," Majiya said. "A few others were injured, but there were no other deaths."

"Security men standing outside the mosque stopped her from entering after she tried to come in through the entrance reserved for male worshippers," Zamari said.

"It was God's will," he told Anadolu Agency.
