Eighth Arab film festival opens in Algerian Oran


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) Algerian Minister of Culture Azzedine Mihoubi inaugurated the Eighth International Festival of Arab Film in Oran (FIOFA) on Wednesday night in the presence of a large number of celebrities from across the Arab world and beyond.

The celebs include Yahya Al-Fakharani, Mahmoud Hemeida, Laila Olwi and Wafaa Amer - from Egypt, Selim Sabri, Sabah Al-Jazaeri, Solaf Fawakherji and Suzan Nejm-Eddin - Syria, Claudia Cardinale - Italy, and Turkey's Selim Bayraktar - a guest of honor best known for his role as 'Sumbul Aga' in 'Muhtesem Yuzyil.' Up to 38 movies and documentaries from 17 countries, including Egypt, the United Arab Emirates, Tunisia, Morocco, Lebanon, Jordan, Palestine, Syria, and France feature in this event which lasts until June 12.

The festival will honor Algerian filmmaker Mohammed Lakhdar-Hamina, the winner of the Palme d'Or at the Cannes Film Festival for his 'Chronicle of the years of embers' in 2003.
