(MENAFN - The Journal Of Turkish Weekly) A high-speed railway linking Russia's capital Moscow and Kazan, capital of the Tatarstan Republic, is planned to open in 2018 before the country hosts the 21st FIFA World Cup.

The China Railway Group Limited announced Wednesday that one of its subsidiaries and two Russian companies won the Moscow-Kazan high-speed rail contract, according to Chinese state news agency Xinhua.

The railway is expected to cut the travel time between the cities from 14 hours to 3.5 hours.

A formal agreement for the 2.42 billion yuan ($395 million) contract will be signed at the end of the month.

The three firms are discussing coordination and project management as they are set to collaborate on surveying, project designing and regional development planning between 2015-2016.
