Denver Labor Lawyers Aid Laid Off Airport Employees

Union officials to meet with labor lawyers to find solutions to help workers.

Last week Frontier Airlines announced that that it will hire contractors to do the work of about a third of its total workforce (1300 employees) at the Denver airport and in Milwaukee. Union officials are meeting with labor lawyers to determine various options to aid the employees.

“Frontier said it will hire a unit of Swissport International Ltd. to perform all ground-operations work at the Denver airport replacing 1160 airline employees. Sitel a privately held company based in Nashville will be hired to replace 140 reservations workers in Milwaukee” reported The Associated Press.

In order to keep prices low and have a competitive edge with other so-called ultra-low-cost airline such as Spirit Airlines and Allegiant Air Frontier spokesman Todd Lehmacher stated that it was a “difficult but necessary decision” to shift the work to specialized contractors. And Frontier Airlines is not alone; their announcement came on the heels of the recent United Airlines statement that they are eliminating up to 2000 jobs and hiring a contractor for baggage-handling and other work at 28 airports.

As a fairly new airline Frontier is still in the experimental phase with finding its place in the bargain airfare market. From alternating routes to now outsourcing labor the future of Frontier is still unknown. Steve Roberts organizing director of the Transport Workers Union called the outsourcing “bad business and bad for customers.”

Fortunately with the help of online labor lawyers those who have been laid off can find legal guidance with the help of innovators like UpCounsel. These cyber lawyers are able to connect with potential clients in a virtual legal marketplace compiled of thousands of attorneys located all over the United States including attorneys in Denver and throughout the state of Colorado. They are able to offer much more competitive costs for legal services since they are primarily based online and carry minimal overhead when compared to big law firms. This is an obvious advantage for those whose work status is precarious.

Nonetheless Frontier Airlines has said that their former employees would be given priority for interviews with the contractors to be hired back. With the help of knowledgeable and experienced labor attorneys and union guidance they will hopefully be able to negotiate a contract that will provide a modicum of future job security.
